While most people know that ºÚÁÏÇ鱨վ’s undergraduate population has become increasingly international, it may come as a surprise that so many young people, in their formative middle school and high school years, travel across oceans to come to campus.

As the debt-limit debate went into hyperdrive after news of a deal filtered out of the nation’s capital on Sunday night, ºÚÁÏÇ鱨վ economics professor Thomas Michl urged political leaders to tone down the demagoguery and focus on the real issue at hand: creating jobs.

Robert Simpson ’97 has been chosen by N.Y. Gov. Andrew Cuomo to help lead a new organization tasked with better coordinating economic development opportunities in central New York.

Two accomplished alumni have been selected to lead ºÚÁÏÇ鱨վ’s Board of Trustees. Denis F. Cronin ’69 was elected chair, and Robert A. Kindler ’76 was named vice chair during the group’s June meeting.

A ºÚÁÏÇ鱨վ liberal arts education leads to successful careers, a recent survey shows. A study by PayScale provides concrete evidence that ºÚÁÏÇ鱨վ graduates fare very well when considering salaries. The school was ranked ninth overall for median mid-career salaries in a survey of more than 1,000 undergraduate colleges and universities.

Former ºÚÁÏÇ鱨վ professor Arnold A. Sio, a forerunner in teaching race relations at the university level, passed away June 29 in Kingston, N.Y. He was 93.

Last month, in the valley of Chenango, gathered 47 ºÚÁÏÇ鱨վ alumni, parents, and friends. Leaving behind jobs, bills, and Glee reruns, they became students again, taking classes with some of the university’s leading professors during Summer on the Hill, June 22-26.

The Hamilton International Film Festival is returning to Central New York for a third year and its organizers promise an all star lineup of films, charity-themed events, and red-carpet parties.
